A locked rooftop,
reborn as a garden.

Formerly locked to the public, neglected and unused, in the summer of 2010 the Doddington West Residents' Association (DWRA) set up a gardening club to take over management of the space from Wandsworth Council.

Donations from the DWRA and Capital Growth, the support of local councillors and several volunteer days helped establish the garden as a community growing space. Today it's managed by a committee of local residents and open three times a week for everyone to enjoy.

Volunteers maintain mature fruit trees, a herb maze, a polytunnel, lawns, compost area and sheds. With only a metre of topsoil, conservation groups have remarked they've never seen a city garden like it — growing strawberries, apples, figs, pears, plums, raspberries, potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkins, leeks, artichokes, elderflower and so much more.

All the produce is shared with the local community.
